Charities

The CCA has a long history of philanthropic and charitable support. From the earliest days of the club, there has always been a strong desire to give back to the community. The present day CCA continues that heritage through a combination of direct donations to worthy charities and volunteering of members' time and effort. Currently our principle efforts are focused toward the following eight organizations and activities. While the CCA occasionally provides support for other organizations, many of these eight have been on our primary list for a decade or more.

CaringMatters (previously Hospice Caring, Inc.), located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, provides caring, compassionate, practical and high quality, non-medical support services, without charge, to Montgomery County adults and children facing a life-threatening illness or grieving the death of a loved one. The CCA provides direct donations to CaringMatters and CCA members have received training from CaringMatters to volunteer at Camp Erin which is an overnight weekend camp for children and teens who are grieving the death of someone close to them.

National Corvette Museum

The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky preserves the history of America's Sports Car. Supported by a membership of over 36,000, it includes library archives and exhibit space for all things Corvette. Located across the road from the only Corvette assembly plant in the world, it is the world's largest museum dedicated to a single car model. The NCM is a major area attraction receiving over 220,000 visitors a year. The museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation. The CCA is proud to hold a lifetime club membership in the NCM and many CCA members are also individual members of the NCM. The National Corvette Museum is the home of the NCM Hall of Fame and the CCA is proud that one of its founding members, Dr. Dick Thompson, was elected to the Hall of Fame.

The NCM Motorsports Park, located across Interstate 65 from the Museum, was created to provide a safe and challenging environment where drivers of all ages, interests, and skill levels can become more proficient behind the wheel. Whether the goal is teen safety or the excitement of high performance recreational driving, the Motorsports Park provides classroom instruction and on-track training with a certified instructor, designed to help students increase their ability and build skills that can be applied to the track and to the real world. The CCA is proud to be an early contributor to the track’s development. In 2012, two years before the track opened, the CCA became a member of the One Acre Club by making a donation allowing the purchase of an acre for the track. Today CCA volunteers serve as certified instructors at the track and many CCA members have had the opportunity to improve their skills at the NCM Motorsports Park.

Tire Rack Street Survival

The Tire Rack, in association with the BMW Car Club of America Foundation, provides a series of Street Survival Schools around the country to teach teens to be better drivers on the street. They learn car control in unpredictable situations based on the handling limits of their car. They learn how to make good driving decisions and react more quickly while becoming more aware of anticipating the actions of other drivers. The CCA along with the Northern Virginia Corvette Club provide volunteer support and instructors for the Tire Rack Street Survival session held in Maryland.

USMCR Toys for Tots

The CCA annually holds a fund raising luncheon and car show in November to benefit the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. The club works directly with the Toys for Tots Montgomery County, MD organization.

Traffic Safety Education Foundation

The Traffic Safety Education Foundation has the mission to educate new drivers, parents with children of all ages, teachers and grade 4 thru 8 school students about traffic safety and the deadly problems associated with the growing distracted driving epidemic. Driving experts drive distraction free because of what they know. Education is the key to improving knowledge and driving safety in the U.S. The Traffic Safety Education Foundation was created by Andy Pilgrim, a professional race driver. The CCA is proud to provide financial support for his nationwide work.

University of Maryland College Park

In 1999 the CCA established the Corvette Club of America Student Award Fund at the A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park. The endowment is invested by the UMD and the proceeds are used to help a student selected by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Over time the CCA has been able to double the amount of the original endowment and the club intends to continue increasing the size of this endowment.

Wells/Robertson House

The Wells/Robertson House is operated by the City of Gaithersburg and provides transitional housing for homeless men and women who have undergone alcohol/drug treatment or received other professional counseling and want to break the cycle of homelessness. The program helps residents learn how to be self-sufficient, working and functioning members of society. The CCA has provided contributions through the Friends of Wells/Robertson House, Inc.
